As I have mentioned before, I grew up in the Netherlands. It seems like every country has their fair share of weird traditions, especially when it comes to food. The Netherlands is no exception to it.
A very common topping to put on bread in the Netherlands is chocolate. Not just any chocolate, no. You can actually buy boxes of chocolate flakes that is specifically made to put on bread. When I was a child I always loved eating a sandwich with Nutella and chocolate flakes.
Until I moved from the Netherlands I never thought of this as weird. If you have a sandwich you put on some chocolate flakes. However as I mentioned this to people after moving they all thought I had lost my mind. Turns out my delicious breakfast did not meet the health standards of the rest of the world.
Thankfully there are some online shops in Australia that sell Dutch food so I still had my chocolate on bread all the time. Now that I have gone vegan I haven’t been able to eat it as even the dark chocolate version contains milk. So there was only one thing I could do, I made my own vegan friendly version of this breakfast and I may have added some fruit just to make it a bit healthier.
Next on the list is vegan nutella, I have been trying a few different ways of making this but I have not achieved perfection yet. As soon as I make the perfect vegan nutella, I will share it with all of you.
