I share a different smoothie recipe on this blog every Wednesday. Going through these smoothies I noticed a trend. Almost every single smoothie I shared is very creamy and quite heavy. Now I prefer my smoothies creamy and filling for in the morning. Sometimes when I am just looking for a quick, light and refreshing smoothie to satisfy my need for a sweet drink or a refreshing drink on a hot summer day.
Now this berry date smoothie is exactly that. Quick, light and refreshing. When I was experimenting I couldn’t figure out what to use as a base for these smoothie. I contemplated vodka, however it didn’t seem like the best idea in the world. So I went with the most traditional liquid I could find, water.
This berry date smoothie is probably best described as a crush as opposed to a smoothie. All it has is water, frozen fruit and a sweetener. Now I used dates for this smoothie as they are one of the healthiest sweeteners out there. To use dates in a smoothie you just have to soak them in boiling water for 10 minutes or cold water overnight. If you have a high powered blender you don’t have to soak the dates.
- 1½ cup frozen mixed berries
- 1½ cup water
- 3 medjool dates, pitted and soaked
- Put all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
