This week was a struggle, for some reasons I had a lot of cravings for sweet food and unhealthy food. When I started my vegan challenge I probably didn’t go about it entirely the correct way. I have always loved sweet food and snacks and at times soft drinks was a bigger part of my diet than water. When I started this challenge I opted to cut out all animal products but at the same time go cold turkey on soft drinks, processed snacks and ice cream.
Now in a way I am happy I stopped eating and drinking all of those things but it also has been a constant struggle. Ever since the start my craving for ice cream have been non stop. Before I would eat at least 1 pint of ice cream a week (I was such an adult). And I would constantly be snacking on lollies and cake and really anything I could get my hands on, salted caramel donuts anyone? Ever since I have cut all of those foods out of my diet I have been wanting them non stop. Thankfully it is snacks like this raspberry smoothie bowl that help keep me on the right track.
To compensate for that I have been having a lot of smoothies, now I know smoothies with lots of fruit and occasionally juice are not the healthiest things to eat/drink but it has helped with my cravings for sweets. And I have received a lot of emails about my smoothies and how they are just not healthy enough. And I do apologise but smoothies are the one thing I share because I love them personally and not because it is what people might be looking for.
So the moral of this story is that my smoothies are great for curbing sweet cravings but you should definitely enjoy them in moderation because they are still filled with lots of sugar and this delicious raspberry smoothie bowl is no exception to that.
